Sleep - Who Needs It?

Me! And Trudi! Also Hazel and Ivy!

Hazel's new trick is to not believe that bedtime is relevant for her. For the last two nights she has happily ignored the bedtime routine, the dummy, the dim room, etc. She just lies there smiling and thrashing about.

So I have reread The No-Cry Sleep Solution and have the following resolves:

1. We need a better bedtime routine.
2. They need better (longer) daytime sleeps.

I can help number 2 by not rushing in and getting them up the first time they stir. I have to help them settle again. usually this means dummies. Just as well Trudi bought a whole lot more after I melted them all...

Right they are waking - time for a bath. They are really gross. Hazel has a sticky eye again.

Twelve Feeds a Day

Hazel is asking for stacks of little feeds these days. I thought that after three months babies needed fewer feeds.

Sigh.

I hoped this was a "growth spurt" but it's been going on for a couple of weeks. Any clues? Post a comment if you have a magic suggestion...

It's Really Humid Today

We are all sticky and gross. The babies' feet feel like blu-tac. The washing will not dry. The evaporative air con has no effect.

I am supposed to be at mothers' group right now, but the little bunnies are sleeping and I can't seem to make myself wake them up. They've been in bed for about half an hour - perhaps that is enough to set them up to cope. In fact I hear someone squeaking now!

I really have no idea what I'm doing.

We are the cutest babies in the world

Or so our mums think.

That's Hazel on the left, and Ivy on the right in turquoise.

Bacon is Fine

On the weekend we had brunch with Jackie & Felicity. Flick made an awesome fried brekky, while Jackie compiled a beguiling trestle table in the back yard of their new house. The babies were engaging and cooed satisfyingly.

There was a brief tense moment when Flick suggested feeding the surplus bacon to Dusty the Dog, and Trudi and I both reacted with the appropriate level of horror. Can there even be a surplus of bacon? I think not. So the humans gobbled the remaining morsels and Dusty saw not a skerrick of bacon.
Here is Jackie with Hazel:

Sociability

Went to a NIMBA lunch today. NIMBA = Northern and Inner Multiple Births Association, which means twins in Preston, Northcote, etc. Also some triplets I hear, but not at our lunch today.

I met some new friends, which is always exciting.

Apparently we will do this monthly. I've offered to be Miss July. By then I think I will be up to hosting a lunch for eight mums and sixteen kinds. NOT YET THOUGH.

Tomorrow we three will go to a pool party at Natasa's mum's place. Natasa is in my mothers' group (they all have just the one baby each). It will be 37 tomorrow, and Natasa promises that there are trees to park under, the pool is shaded, and the adjoining rumpus room is air conditioned.

Off I go, Ivy is calling me.

Mummy Was Distracted

I just melted all the dummies. I was trying to sterilise them by boiling them, but I forgot about them and they boiled dry.

Now they are all fused to the bottom of a nice new saucepan, in a swirl of coloured plastic.

It's Not Thrush

Sez the doctor today. Then why does breast feeding hurt so much? I've been told that there's a GP who specialises in lactation, so I'm going to see if she can help.

Also she suggested nipple shields and Lucas' pawpaw ointment.

Gave the girls a bath today - they are so darn cute! Trudi held a photo shoot afterwards, with towels draped strategically over them - they look a bit like Greek godlets.

Off to have my second lunch. Eating for three!

Portacot

We think we want one. They all seem kind of crappy though.

We're going to Merimbula at Easter, and we might break the 8-hour trip by staying the night in Bairnsdale or somewhere. Can we stuff two six-month-old girls in one portacot?

Then once we are there we can use the one proper cot that T's mum Judy has, and perhaps the portacot as well. We like to plan Well in Advance.

Ah Ging Ah Bwa

Ivy's first sentence.

Songs that mention "Hazel"?

I know two songs with "Ivy" in them (Mairsy Doats and My Father Left Me an Acre of Land). But none that mention "Hazel".

Can you think of any? Add a comment to this post if you can.

The three of us

Trudi took this photo. We're in the dining room. The two baby bouncers are INVALUABLE. I use them as a parking spot for babies. One person can bottle-feed both babies too, if they are mounted in their bouncers.

Mirror Work

New trick - both Hazel and Ivy smile at themselves in the mirror.

When the real baby sees the mirror baby, she makes eye contact then gives a tiny pre-smile mouth-flicker. The real baby then thinks "Well the mirror baby is smiling so I had better too" and an arms race of smiles ensues.

Wheeee!

Ivy is now up to the 25th percentile in weight (up from 10th at birth), and Hazel is at the 50th percentile (up from 15 at birth)!

So it's all good and everything is good and it's good. Happy now. Nice fat babies. They have chubby thighs.

Weigh-In Today

We're off to the Maternal and Child Health Nurse today, and the main thing is getting Ivy weighed. Kerry the nurse is very nice but really noo use at all for anything else.
